The basi thing to do when selecting a solar charger is to grasp what your power needs are so you may buy a charger that will not be too weak for your needs or too huge (and too expensive) for your needs. The goal to be attained is to select one that may handle your instrumentation so you are not disappointed with actual run times and charging times. Equally it is not necessary to buy one that may run a refrigerator and cost a lot of cash when you only need to charge a cell phone or camera battery.

So, the firstborn step is to take an actual inventory of the instrumentation and appliances you want to charge with your new solar charger. We commend making a list. On your list you must likewise indicate how a heap of watts or amps your instrumentation draws when in use and for how numerous hours per day you will need to run those devices. For an example your list ought to look something like this:

Equipment necessitated to run with Solar Charger:

Cell phone 5 watts or 400 mah. Hours necessitated per day: 5 hours

Laptop Computer 50 watts or 4000 mah. Hours necessitated per day: 3 Hours

Ok, so now that we recognise what our actual power needs are, we are ready to select your battery charger. Based on the above example you may take the number of hours necessitated times the amps for total amp hours necessitated per day for that device.

Example:

Cell Phone 400 mah x 5 hours = 2000 mah necessitated per day to run your cell phone.

Laptop Computer 4000 mah x 3 hours= 12000 mah necessitated per day to run your Laptop.

Total Power needed: 14000 mah (or 14 amp hours) a day to run your devices.

Now we know that we need 14 amps out of a solar battery charger daily to meet your needs. Since you have high power needs a backup battery will be required with your solar charger system. With a back up battery you may store power from your solar charger inside the battery and then run your instrumentation right off the battery. The specification to look for on our internetsite is the battery size, which will be specified by amps. You will need at least a 14-amp battery in order to run your instrumentation for the hours per day you specified.

You are in all probability marveling how galore hours will it take to charge a 14-amp battery with a solar battery charger? The answer is rather simple: A 1 amp solar charger will charge up a 14-amp hour battery in 14 hours. Simply take the amp hours of the battery and divide it by the amperage output of the solar charger. Example: 14 amps divided by 1 amp = 14 hours. If you want to reduce those charging times plainly pick a more powerful solar charger.

*Please note: If you do not have the amperage specification handy plainly take the watts of your device disunited by 12 to get the amps. Example: 5 watt cell phone disunited by 12 = 0.400 (or 400 mah) Now you know your cell phone requires 400 mah per hour to run. If you just need to run a cell phone most solar chargers generate 400 mah an hour to run your cell phone with out back up battery. While buying goods at Earthtech Products plainly look for solar chargers that generate 400 mah per hour. This selective information may be found in specifications on the productions detail page.

1Not worth it!!!!
By L. Thiffault
Got the Yellow top for my van, thinking they are the best, and would last longer than my OEM did. 2 years. Well here I am 2 years later with a Top of the line battery, and it won’t hold a charge. Could have expended 1/2 the cash or less, and pobably would still have a pro-rated battery warranty, or even still a viable battery. Time to go back to Sears I guess…Hope others have better luck….

5Really a 4.5 “because”…
By Palm Trees
This is officially my sixth Optima Yellow Top battery, and the initial that has had an issue calling for warranty support. Unfortunately, I was told by Optima that Amazon is not on their authorized retailer list accordingly I am unable to take it to a local retailer for warranty support. I also confirmed by way of my Amazon account that it cannot be returned to Amazon. What to do, what to do. Well, even altho it is only 9 months old, I purchased a brand new Optima from my local Autozone that I recognise will be an easy interchange ought to I ever have an issue again.

3Not worth the hype or the money
By Mark Sanchez
There’s a lot of un-due praise for Optima batteries. I believe their reputation is over deserving. Granted batteries don’t last long in Phoenix, I was expecting more than the 2 years I got out of my Yellow Top Optima; their capacity and life is not much dissimilar than for less quality batteries.
